After a somewhat disapointing startto the 2010 Metro Season, we have a real chance to make ammends tis week against a rejuvinated Riverside F.C.
Looking very professional in their new team uniforms, Riverside boasted a squad of 18 or 19 players as they took on the reigning premiers O.C. Jets.
Riverside jumped out of the blocks and lead for a good part of the day before the Jets experience came to the fore and overpowered a really inspired Riverside.
The usual suspects lead the Riverside team, with Mad Dog, Dazza, Derron and Giggsy all providing great leadership to a very inexperienced but enthusiastic squad.
Our 2010 season began with a splutter and splurt, rather than the bang we had hoped for.
The first quarter saw the Sharks kick away to a very handy lead, keeping us scoreless.
From the begining of the second quarter on we were able to peg back some of the advantage, but a lack of polish and match fitness cost the Swans in the end, going down confortably.
Round 2 brings new challenges against Riverside.
They are a tall and mobile side, but still do not have the experience and polish of the Jets and Sharks.
Iti s a real danger game for us, especially with some key outs from Round 1.
Big Drew had a great game rotating between the Key back post, where he took on and beat all comers from the star studded Sharks line up, and the Ruck where his crash and bash mentality really made it hard for the Sharks to dominate out of the center square. His absence will be sorely missed this week.
New "Crow Eater" Tim Asimos was a clear stand out in the middle for the Swans, clearing the ball and delivering it into the forward half with precision and force.
Aussie Rules debutants Brian and Doug made solid contributions and both will be much better for the run, gaining in confidence and skills with every minute spent on the ground.
After lasting only 3 minutes in his long awaied football comeback, Randy will be missed down back.
A bit of rest and rehab should see him suit up again after the Easter break.
The "old" guard of Corey, Colter, Adam,O'Shea and Jason will need to be at the top of their game if they are to overcome the new Riverside team.
On a positive note, we were the last team standing at the bar after the game, so if we can keep this up, our potential new sponsors, The Draft, will be very happy.
Every available member of the team will be needed this week as we try and get our first win of the season.
We also look forward to seeing some great support as we will be playing at our home ground (even though it is a Sharks home game)
We hope to see you all there, and get the Swans going in season 2010.
