After a great start to the season with a crushing win over the Raiders, we have had a few minor setbacks in the last couple of weeks.
Mainly injuries have played a big part in us not being able to compete for a full 4 quarters in either of our matches.
Round 3 was no exception.
With Adam and O'Shea pulling out during the week, Jason not having fully recovered from his calf strain and Trav still overcoming his thigh injury, our stocks were low. Come game day and Marty still not available, Ian dissapearing, and our new rugby recruit Andrew retiring after one game for health reasons, we were looking like a pretty sick bunch. Then came the crushing late news that Stewie would not make the game only made for more concern
Our core group of Country, Colter and Corey took it upon themselves to put in herculean efforts to stave off a strong and skillful OC team.
The comeback kid in Wardy was a sight for all the sore Swannie eyes, and made a huge difference down back.
Piercey and first gamer Paul were servicable in a variety of positions through out the day and our "borrowed" players in MadDog, Fletch, Luto and Dollar gave us great efforts after playing the game before.
Although the Jets were too strong on the day, it showed that our core of players is still a formidable outfit.
With the impending return of Adam, Jason, Travis and Stewie in the coming weeks, the Swans will be a force come the last few rounds of the year. With some luck and a bit of work on our fitness, the Sharks and Jets will have some headaches come finals time.
Lets hope we can stick to our guns and really fight out the rest of the season and make some trouble come the pointy end when maybe we can slip into contention for the flag.
