Los Angeles Swans Australian Rules Football Club

Welcome to the LA Swans.

This inaugural season promises to be a great one for our club and the newly formed Southern Californian Australian Football League (SCAFL). We have a core group of dedicated and enthusiastic players that are very eager to develop Australian Rules Football in the Los Angeles area. Below is a rundown of what will unfold over the next couple of months. All the details on this website will be updated on a regular basis, so please check it out for further information. Please also check out the official the SCAFL website www.socalfooty.com for updates, news and events. We will also be sending out e-news mail, at regular intervals throughout the year, to keep our players and members up to date on the goings on around the club.

Training
Our first training session will be this Saturday the 28th of January. The SCAFL clubs will be holding a combined training session at Woodley Park starting 9am.

WOODLEY PARK
6350 WOODLEY AVENUE
VAN NUYS, CA 91436

We are also currently in the process of securing other training sites around the L.A. area. Training will be initially take place on Saturday or Sunday mornings and training sites will be rotated to make it fair for all players in terms of traveling time.

At training we usually run some warm up exercises, stretch and then practice skills and learn new aspects of the game. We often finish training by playing a scrimmage. The majority of training is not full contact.

What to bring:
Water
Cleats or running shoes
Mouthguard

The SCAFL monthly meeting will take place immediately after training at Irelands 32 starting 11am. The address for Irelands is 13721 Burbank Blvd. Van Nuys, CA 91401. http://www.irelands32pub.com

Everyone is most welcomed to attend and contribute to the meeting.

Steve “Tunks” Turner officially appointed as Head Coach
Steve Turner will be the official L.A. Swans Head Coach for 2006. A former state representative for New South Wales, Steve has a wealth of experience at both the player and administrative levels in Aussie Rules Football in Australia and the USA and is a great asset to the club.

Schedule
The Spring/Summer schedule for 2006 will be announced shortly after the SCAFL board meeting on Saturday the 28th.

Special thanks to Brad Wetherall!
I would like to acknowledge Brad Wetherall, our great website designer and manager.

You will indeed find out very soon how terrific and unique this club is, a developing football team strongly supported off the field by a growing fan-base with an Australian cultural flavor. Australians are known throughout the world for their relaxed and friendly nature and this is reflected in the Aussie Rules Club. If you would like more information please email the club president or coach located in the contacts section.

I encourage everyone to join our great club, and I hope to see you at this week’s training.

Regards,
Janni Mirosevich
